Samsung's upcoming flagship phone, the Galaxy S5, has long been in the spotlight with a spate of rumours surrounding its specifications, price and release making waves on the internet.

Some of the biggest speculations surrounding the S5 release have been regarding whether the next-gen Galaxy smartphone will be made of metal or plastic, feature AMOLED or PLS LCD panel, if it will be powered by new Exynos 6 or Snapdragon 805 processor or if its camera would feature Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS).

According to a SamMobile insider, the Galaxy S5 will feature both metal and plastic versions as rumoured earlier. While the metal version is expected to be priced around €800 (£667,$1,093), the plastic model is likely to cost around €650.

Following Apple's marketing strategy of offering a plastic version iPhone 5c along with the metal iPhone 5s, Samsung will reportedly offer a similar treat with the Galaxy S5. Though the metal version of S5 is deemed to be the premium model, it is still unclear if it will be named Galaxy F as rumoured.

The key features confirmed for Galaxy S5 are as follows:

  • An AMOLED display with 2560x1440 resolution (screen size is still unconfirmed, while speculations hint at 5.25in)
  • 16 megapixel rear camera (OIS feature is unconfirmed)
  • The metal version to be powered by Exynos 6 processor with 8 cores, while the Snapdragon 805 will power phones (plastic version) with LTE capability
  • Run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, which is consistent with rumours so far

Samsung is also expected to unveil the Galaxy S5 Mini and S5 Zoom after the S5 release sometime between June and May 2014. Though there is little detail available about the S5 Mini and S5 Zoom specifications at the moment, it has been confirmed that both will feature a Super AMOLED display (S5 Zoom to include 4.8in display with qHD resolution) and run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.
