Fast-food fans in the UK are set for a treat as McDonalds has announced it is set to trial its new delivery service as early as June.

The burger behemoth already offers home delivery in a number of countries including China and Singapore, and will shortly be offering customers the same option in the UK.

Speaking to Sky News, McDonald's UK chief executive Paul Pomroy said: "What's obvious to us now is that customers now would like McDonald's to look at delivery.

"The market's growing – I've been looking at that market for 18 months now – customers are starting to ask us when McDonald's are doing delivery.

"We think we're going to start probably in June. We'll start in a small, controlled way."

It is not clear which delivery model the company will use to get its food out to hungry customers, but rumours abound that a second company such as Deliveroo or Just Eat will be handed the contract.

The news comes shortly after McDonald's rolled out its mobile app – which allows customers to order food from their table – in a number of restaurants, amid promising first quarter results announced this week that show the company's shares up 5.6%.
