It is not the first time the US President has been refused a handshake in public.

Donald Trump experienced another spectacular handshake fail during his visit to Poland on Thursday (6 July).

The US president was snubbed by Poland's first lady who ignored him and instead warmly greeted his wife Melania with a handshake.

After vigorously shaking hands with Polish President Andrzej Duda, Trump extended his hand to First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda. But she showed no interest in conversing with the US leader.

After shaking Melania's hand, Kornhauser-Duda then returned to Donald to shake his hand.

Trump is visiting Poland ahead of the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, on Friday (7 July).

He made a speech in Warsaw in which he called Putin to end Ukraine conflict and drop support for 'hostile regimes' and argued that the future of Western civilisation is at stake.

The awkward moment was not the first time the US President has been snubbed in public. Melania famously swatted his hand away during their first overseas trip to Israel in May.

He has also declined to shake hands with world leaders, most notably with German Chancellor Angela Merkel who he offered a cold welcome when she visited the White House earlier this year.

Trump was friendlier to other politicians, enthusiastically complimenting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's "strong hands" as he gripped them for almost 20 seconds.

Photos of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's meeting with Trump went viral when it appeared that he raised his eyebrows and resisted the president's handshake.

French President Emmanuel Macron instead chose to assert his dominance by gripping Trump's hand so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
